The building is a cultural heritage monument — an example of mid-19th century Classicist architecture that has preserved the characteristic recessed window forms and carved elements in its façade composition. The two façades of the single-storey rendered brick house, which face the street corner, are articulated by a rhythm of rectangular openings set within an arched band. The springing points (knees) of the band’s arches rest on chamfered pilasters, which constitute the only decorative ornamentation of this modest façade. The value of the building lies precisely in this simplicity and laconic quality that distinguish it from other “Tbilisi houses” in the neighborhood.
The 100-room hotel project represents the coexistence of the rehabilitated historic structure and a new volume. The reconstructed building was designed to be recessed from the façade that has cultural heritage status. The façades of the floors are more articulated. One part is finished with vertical colored glass, another is a decorative structure made of composite panels. The third part of the building is completed with a regular brick façade.
The architectural concept of Hotel New History aims to introduce diversity into the historic district of Tbilisi — both in terms of massing and the interaction of materials.
